Recycling symbols

Also known as the “Green Dot”, this symbol does not necessarily mean that the packaging is recyclable. It is a symbol used on packaging and signifies that the producer is part of an alternative management system and has made a financial contribution to the recycling of packaging.

This symbol indicates that an object is capable of being recycled. It does not mean that the object has been made out of recycled material.

This symbol, just like the previous one, indicates that the product can be recycled. The percentage shown in the center of the symbol is the percentage of recycled material used in producing the object.

This identifies the type of plastic recycled. PET or polyethylene bottles are used in water and soda packaging and are easily recycled.

The HDPE symbol (High-Density Polyethylene) is found on detergent bottles, trash bags, juice bottles and it signals that the plastic can be recycled.

PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) has been replaced in food industry by PET and it is usually used in cables and piping. It is more difficult than the rest plastic types to recycle and burning it releases toxic substances.

It signals Low-Density Polyethylene plastic and is found on plastic shopping bags.

It is commonly found in straws, bottle caps, sauce bottles and some medical syrup bottles. PP (Polypropylene) is recyclable.

PS (Polystyrene) is the material used in disposable plastics (cups, plates, etc.), CD and DVD cases and it is recyclable.

This identifies all of the plastic resins that don’t fit into the other categories and it is used in sunglasses, computer cases and large water bottles.

European Ecolabel. This symbol indicates that the object has been produced using environment-friendly methods.

This symbol is mainly used in the USA and it indicates that the product has been produced using environment-friendly methods.

This symbol is found on glass packaging (bottles, jars, etc.) and it encourages its recycling.

This symbol is not relevant to recycling but it is a reminder for responsible citizens to properly throw away products.

When this symbol is found on a product, it means it is made out of recycled aluminum and can be recycled again.

The product with this symbol on is made of recyclable steel that can be recycled again.

This is found on paper or wooden products and it indicates that the wood came from sustainably managed forests, in accordance with the rules of the FSC.

This is used on electric and electronic devices and it means they can be recycled separately.

The Blue Angel is a German eco-symbol that is usually found on paper and plastic products, showing that they are made out of recycled material.
